Apparently it was a kit car fot the Beetle. From the wiki:
''The
Brubaker Box
was a kit car designed by Curtis Brubaker. It's the first
minivan
. Brubaker got the idea from
Volkswagen Minibuses
, and decided to try and update the concept. The kit was designed to fit on the chassis of a
Volkswagen Beetle
. In 1972 after a deal with Volkswagen could not be reached, Brubaker began buying completed Beetles and converting them to Boxes, selling the excess pieces. However, this scheme didn't work, and very few boxes were ever constructed. Brubaker filed for bankruptcy the same year. Investors in the company tried to continue manufacturing the Box in various way, the only success being Automecca in 1974 with its "Sports Van."

I'm not surprised that business plan didn't work out. Very cool and different vehicle though.

Possibly. Its been almost 10 years since I last saw Rick's Brubaker, and since then he's gotten a divorce and moved to Florida.

My friend still has his, and he's looking to sell or ship it to Florida. I'm waiting to hear whether he has the molds or not.

Cool! I'd like to know more about it, if you and him are willing to talk. Like does it still have the VW engine and other details... I can't help it I find this very interesting.

Let me see if he's available. I haven't seen his for a very long time but I believe his still has a VW engine.
